Note from the Owners Family Reunion Event: We hosted our own family reunion at the Family Cove & Corner Duplexes on Sunday May 20th with approximately 40-45 family members throughout the day (14 people actually sleeping at the homes). So it was a great dry run to see how the homes would accommodate our guests this summer. I’m happy to report that it worked out exceptionally well. The fridge space was great, the space for people to choose to visit in one home or another (generally the older generation chose one living room while the young un’s were in another). One kitchen was used for food preparation and everyone ate outside. We can even provide a menu list – all of which was purchased at the Santa Cruz Costco for $352. With most people contributing $15 towards the food – it was all covered by the family. Just an FYI if any of the guests would like some help with menu or shopping planning – I will be happy to share tips. It worked great cause we got the pre-marinated meats – so no need to buy extra sauces that we would have to pack.

One of the yards and picnic tables was used for all the children (blowing bubbles, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches and chips. Afterwards they got hosed off and some of the adults lead a forage into the nearby Nearys Lagoon & to the playground to wear them all out for their naps. While another yard was used for adult eating and visiting. The event went all day and it worked out really well. Throughout the day different groups of people (mainly brothers and sisters) broke off and went for the 2-1/2 block walk down to the Wharf and Boardwalk to visit and work off some calories.

As night approached, the older folks and couples headed off to bed in one home – while the youngsters who wanted to stay up and watch movies were in the other. It was great as everyone could choose their own schedule and activities, yet everyone got to visit and head off to bed whenever they wanted.

As a happy coincidence, some other guests who would be staying at the Family Corner Home (over the UCSC/Father’s Day weekend) drove by to see the homes and was very pleased to see our event going on. It really helped ease her level of comfort that her planned celebration would go well. I spoke with her for a few minutes and let her tour the Family Corner Home to see the layout so she could plan her celebration. She was very happy.

Note – since it was a weekend – extra parking passes were not needed since all day parking is allowed on Saturdays and Sundays – passes only needed for overnight parking.

THE FAMILY CORNER & COVE HOMES: are located close to downtown Santa Cruz, within walking distance to the famous Pacific Mall for fabulous shopping in the heart of downtown, two movie theaters, natural foods grocery store and many other attractions. A short bike ride away is the world-famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with the West Coast's longest remaining wooden roller coaster and FREE world-class entertainers on Friday nights during the summer (6:30-& 8:30pm) and all the beautiful beaches anyone could want. Several Bikes, locks and helmets provided.

There are 3 parks in the immediate area, one a skateboard park, another with volleyball court. Neary Lagoon is 1/4 block down the street, is a 44-acre park, wetland ecosystem and wildlife refuge. Close to a major bus lines, the home offers high-speed Internet hookup and a computer to use while a guest here. It's a warm, livable place, the beautifully decorated living room with magna flat screen TV in combination with dining room large for group get-togethers. Close to USCS campus, Trader Joe's, with a dog run in back, a BBQ in the large yard.

The first of the two bedrooms in each home, has 1-King bed with 1- Twin trundle with 2-twins beds or they can be put together (with King 2Twin foam converter) to be another King. The 2nd large bedroom 1-Queen bed with another twin trundle which can also be another King. The Great Room has 2-Queen Innerspring Futons. 1-full bath with shower tub and a 1/2 bath in each home. The other Family Home is next door and the yards have an adjoining gate. The Family Cove Home is a mirror image of the Family Corner Home and has the same bedding, so you can sleep up to 24 between the two of them.
